Are you serious about studying drum set? Marimba? Vibraphone?
Woodwinds, Brass, Strings, or Piano?

If you are in the Los Angeles or Orange County California area,
I teach ALL LEVELS OF PROFICIENCY from beginning to professional and all
styles of drum set, marimba, and vibraphone performance such as Rock, Jazz,
Latin, Fusion, Funk, and Recital and Orchestral Literature. I also teach
beginning and intermediate woodwinds, brass, strings, and piano, as well as music theory, jazz
arranging, orchestration, composition, and jazz harmony and improvisation.

Drum Set, Percussion, and Music Instructor

Education
AA, BA, and MM in Music, and a Ph.D in Integral Studies. I also hold a teaching credential in Music
Education.

Drum Set, Mallets, Timpani, and Percussion
My drum set instructors were Chuck Flores and Les DeMerle.
I studied jazz vibesand improvisation with Dave Samuels, and mallets, timpani, and percussion
with Michael Carney, Greg Goodall (L.A. Philharmonic), Kent Hanibal, Steve Traugh, Dale Anderson
(L.A. studio), Ken Watson (L.A. studio), and Mitchell Peters (L.A. Philharmonic).

Music Education
I studied strings with Arthur Mautner and Luther Hughs (also jazz bass).
My woodwinds instructors were John Barcellona and Greg Donovetsky.
For brass I studied with Richard Birkemeier. I studied voice with Henrietta Carter (Southern
California Master Chorale), music theory with Maria Pooler, and conducting with Larry Curtis and
Hans Beer. I furthered my study of music theory with Ian Krause (UCLA) with whom I also studied
orchestration, and composition.  Dr. Bryan R. Simms, Gilbert Blount, and Richard J. Wingell, Ph.D.
were my mentors in Musicology. Lastly, I studied jazz harmony, composition, and arranging with
John Prince.

Performance Background
As a percussionist I have performed live or recorded with the Pasadena Symphony Orchestra,
Harvey Mason, Supercussion, Ralph Humphreys,Ted Piltzecker, David Johnson, and Steve Traugh.
As a drum set player I have performed live or recorded with trumpeters Bobby Shew and Blue
Mitchell, tubist Stan Freese, bassist John Patitucci, the Doctors Big Band, and the rock bands Axis
Sally and Cruise Control.
As a bassist I performed with the Golden West College Lab Band 1.
For numerous years I was pit percussionist for the off Broadway shows Working, Pirates of
Penzanse, Peter Pan, Pippin, and An American Musical.
